Fall is such a fantastic food and wine season. We tend to slow down and savour our surroundings. Communal meals with friends and family come indoors. Richer dishes are on the menu, cozy evenings by the fire are a must. Our November wine club selection reflects this time of year.
Our first stop finds us on the Naramata Bench at Bench 1775 (namesake acquired from said road) The winery can be found on the south shore of Lake Okanagan. There are 3 vineyard sites: Paradise Ranch and Soaring Eagle Vineyards in the Central Okanagan and Oxbow Vineyard in Osoyoos. Their portfolio has a wide range of wine, reds, whites, still and sparkling as well as ice wines and port styles.
Just down the road sits Hillside Winery. One of the first original wineries to open on “the Bench” in 1990. They farm 20 acres on their home vineyard and partner with growers exsclusively on “the Bench.”
In Okanagan Falls lies Liquidity Winery. They farm 30 acres of grapes and also house a well known bistro and art gallery. Winemaker Alison Moyes focus grape is Pinot Noir. 8 different clones are grown along with Merlot, Dornfelder, Chardonnay, Viognier and quite recently, Riesling.
Also in OK Falls is Wild Goose Vineyards. We focus in on their 5 acre property in Oliver, “Mystic River”. The sandy clay and gravel soils in conjunction with the river is a well suited location for vines. The Pinot Blanc grown here is a two-time recipient of the Lieutenant Governor Award of Excellence
