Fontanafredda Gavi Founded in 1878, Fontanafredda is the single largest contiguous estate in Piedmont. Despite their size, there is no compromise in quality. All vineyards are managed sustainably with no use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers, a challenging task for over 120ha of land. The estate vineyards are also a bio-natural sanctuary, serving as refuge for many local flora and fauna. Batasiolo Roero Arneis The cultivation of Arneis in Piedmont dates back to the 15th century. It was originally blended with Nebbiolo to soften the Barolo wines. However, its challenging cultivation and susceptibility to disease, lead to its decline and sent it to the brink of extinction. In the 1980’s only two producers were cultivating and producing Arneis. Tenuta Olim Bauda Moscato d’Asti Due to its effervescence, low alcohol and semi-sweet nature, Moscato d’Asti is often referred to as a “breakfast wine”. If you’d prefer to stick with mimosas at your brunch, Moscato is a great patio sipper. G.D Vajra Dolcetto d’Alba
G.D Vajra Dolcetto d’Alba Dolcetto translates to “little sweet one” which is quite inaccurate, although the berries are small, Dolcetto wines are always dry. The Dolcetto grape is grown in many sub regions of Piedmont (see map), this one hails from calcium carbonate rich soils from vineyards surrounding the town of Alba. This wine is a great example of tasting the ‘terroir’, the wine has an unmistakable chalky mineral finish. Region Dolcetto d’Alba DOC Grape 100% Dolcetto Tasting Note Aromatic and fruity on the nose with lovely blueberry, violet and ripe blackberry aromas. The palate is juicy with plump back cherry and dried herbs. A solid tannic structure support the fruit intensity and carry through to a chalky finish with well-integrated fine-grained tannins. Terre del Barolo Verduno Pelaverga Just north of Barolo lies the village of Verduno, home to the Pelaverga grape. These wines are light in body and tannin, often compared to Pinot Noir & Gamay Region Verduno Pelaverga DOC Grape 100% Pelaverga Piccolo Tasting Note On the nose you find delicate notes of strawberry, red fruits, flowers and spice. The body is light, with fine-grained tannins and refreshing yet prickly acidity. Strawberry, cherry, and white pepper are found on the palate. Fratelli Allesandria Barbera d’Alba Barbera has long been planted on lesser site, as the best plots were traditionally planted with Nebbiolo. The past 20 years, a dramatically quality shift can be seen in Barbera wines. Previously seen as a simple table wine, light in body and fruity. With advances in viticulture and winemaking, Barbera has become a fuller bodied more powerful wine, yet still driven by a ripe black fruit flavour profile.
